Air Festival Launch

April 2012

DIGNITARIES, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth were taken by surprise when a flashmob occurred at the launch of the Bournemouth Air Festival last week.

Sponsors and local business representatives attended the launch of the fourth Bournemouth Air Festival at Key West on the pier and were surprised when they were 'flashmobbed' by the Funky Little Choir, who had been organised by Bournecoast Property Agents.

Bournecoast, who are supporting the three nominated charities this year arranged the flashmob as a surprise to everyone - except of course the organisers of the launch party, who were in on the secret.

Each member of the choir had a name badge and were 'posing' as Bournecoast representatives, when one of their members stood up and just started to sing to the delight and amazement of the VIPs. This male soloist was then closely followed behind by another 11 members of the choir who remained seated, so no one knew who was actually singing until they all started to stand and gravitate towards the front for the finale of the song.

The song that was sung was Joe Cocker's, "I get by with a little help from my friends" which lends itself perfectly to the support given by all the townsfolk from the area be that residents and business alike to the Air Festivals each year, despite the challenges that are faced. Amongst the speakers were Group Captain Ian Tolfts OBE, Commodore Gary Sutton from the Royal Navy and Dr Emma Egging who gave a special address regarding the Jon Egging Trust. She said, "On behalf of the Jon Egging Trust, Hounds for Heroes and the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity, we hope that you will lend your backing to the Air Festival, supporting the charities by joining the Patrons scheme and encouraging people to buy the souvenir brochures and charity wristband."

Des SimmonsDes Simmons, Managing Director of Bournecoast Property Agents who also addressed the audience afterwards spoke about the importance of all supporting each other.

Afterwards he said: "The Funky Little Choir were absolutely amazing. The surprise on everyone's faces was brilliant and it certainly made for a memorable launch, which was followed by a phenomenal night air display including what looked like fireworks coming from the planes. He added, "I have no doubt that this year's event will be better than ever. Each year it gets more and more support and just improves on the previous years. Obviously there is also the serious element of supporting worthwhile charities and the Air Festival's nominated charities for this year are, of course, The Jon Egging Trust, Hounds for Heroes and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. As a family business we are honoured to be supporting all three of these wonderful charities."

Wristbands sold in aid of all three charities are available from many outlets across the town to include the Visitor Information Bureau in Westover Road.
