Situated at the eastern end of Christchurch Bay, Barton On Sea beach has spectacular views over the Solent and the western end of the Isle of Wight and the Needles, with views to Hurst Castle to the east and Christchurch and Hengistbury Head in the west. There are only a few shops in Barton, which are along Marine Drive East and in Sea Road, but you will find a good choice of places to eat out. There is the Beachcomber cafe which is open for breakfast, lunches and afternoon snacks. Further along is the modern Pebble Beach Restaurant and Bistro serving meals and pub lunches. Barton On Sea is part of the town of New Milton in Hampshire. New Milton town centre is about 3km north of Barton cliff top, with a wide selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The town has a high street and holds a market every Wednesday. The nearby New Forest is a genuine walker's paradise with many circular and linear routes. There are many picnic sites with toilet facilities, all of which are carefully sited to allow visitors safe and easy access to a variety of forest landscapes. All year round there are guided walks where local experts will tell you about the history, geology, wildlife and folklore beneath your feet. You can even explore the forest on a ranger-led New Forest event. The New Forest is a fantastic place for cycling with miles and miles of traffic free off-road tracks leading you right into the heart of the forest with few hills to worry about so come and discover the New Forest for yourself.
